Second Life 101
Here are some instructions and tips to help you get the most out of your STA Travel experience.
Basics to move around in Second Life
To be able to walk in Second Life, you use the arrow keys on your keyboard walk forward, backward, and to either side. Since this is Second Life – there are no boundaries. Therefore you can FLY! You will notice at the bottom of your screen there is a button to fly. You press that and you are off. However, you can also hold down your Page Up and you can fly that way as well. If you want to land, you can either hit the button “Stop Flying” at the bottom of your screen or hold down the Page Down button on your keyboard.
How do I talk to others people in Second Life?
You have to click the Chat button at the bottom of your screen and a Chat bar will appear. Her you type what you want to say in chat into the Chat bar at the bottom of your screen and hit Enter to say it
How do I have private conversations with other people in Second Life?
If you see an avatar that you want to have a private IM session with so no one else can read your conversation, right click on that avatar and select IM. Here you can type in your own personal private IM session.
How do I listen to LIVE music or discussions in Second Life?
For some tour events, we will end with a live musical guest or live discussion. In these events, you can listen along to the music/voice stream right from Second Life.
First, along the top left of your screen, go to Edit > Preferences. Click on the Audio & Video tab. Make sure that "Play Streaming Music When Available" box is checked. Then click OK.
You should now have a small music player tab at the bottom of your screen, with stop, play, and volume controls. Just click the Play button (triangle) to listen to the stream. (It might take a moment to connect.) You may have to adjust the volume slider and/or your system volume to set the volume to your preference.
