STA Travel Portal Link - Opens This Monday at 11 am EST
If you've never been in Second Life before, but you're excited to give it a try, Virtual STA Travel has the best way to get you started - starting April 23rd, you'll be able to register for a Second Life account, free of charge, right from this blog!
At 11:00 am EST, click on the Join Second Life Now button and you will be directed to the registration page. It will ask you some basic information, like what name you'd like to have in Second Life, your date of birth, and your email address. Then click register and you're ready to go! Just download the Second Life software and sign in, and you'll start out at the STA Travel Orientation Island, a place where you can quickly get up to speed on the basics of using Second Life before you begin your virtual world travels.
Here's some information to keep in mind:
Second Life is for individuals 18 years of age or older.
Second Life is a graphic and bandwidth intensive application. You should have at least a cable/DSL internet connection or better, and a computer than can handle 3D games. Check the system requirements to be sure you'll be able to run Second Life.
For lots of people, the first question is "How do I get money?" Second Life uses an inworld currency called the Linden, or $L. You can purchase $L using any major credit card or Paypal off the Lindex trade system here: https://secure-web11.secondlife.com/currency/
There's almost no limit to the things you can do in Second Life, but that also leads to a lot of questions. The best place to start is the Knowledge base
Once you're logged into Second Life and you're at the STA Travel Orientation Island, if you need a little extra help, look for our Greeters in the black STA Travel T-Shirts (staffed at peak signup times). See you inworld!
